Archbishop Cordileone Writes to the People of the Archdiocese from the Bishops’ Meeting

Archbishop Cordileone has written a new letter to the faithful of the Archdiocese. The letter contains the Archbishop’s reflections on the listening sessions here and on his conversations with his fellow bishops, who yesterday finished up their meeting in Baltimore. The letter, dated November 15, is posted (in English and in Spanish) on the Archdiocesan website, on the webpage “Protecting Children,” along with the Archbishop’s prior letters on the current crisis, and many other resources.

Archbishop Cordileone Writes to the People of the Archdiocese from the Bishops’ Meeting

Message from Archbishop Cordileone

The U.S. bishops are joining together in a commitment of prayer and reparation leading up to the bishops’ general assembly, where we will be making critical decisions in response to new revelations of abuse, especially sexual abuse and abuse of power, and its cover up. With my brother bishops across the nation, I will be dedicating myself to seven days of intensified prayer and fasting, from Monday, November 5, through Sunday, November 11. The intentions for this period of prayer and sacrifice are three-fold:

  • For the healing and support of all victims of clergy sexual abuse.
  • For the conversion and just punishment of the perpetrators and concealers of sexual abuse.
  • For the strength of the bishops to be holy shepherds in protecting and leading our sheep from all harm.
